At Ohio’s Electric  Cooperatives, we believe in “walking the talk” when it comes to living the cooperative principles. When the residents of western Kentucky recently experienced nature’s wrath during the largest tornado in recorded history, we knew it was time to act on Principle #7: Concern for Community. To that end, OEC is partnering with Kentucky Electric Cooperatives and the West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative to provide assistance to families and children in Graves and Marshall counties.

How YOU can help:

  • Send money – The Kentucky Rural Electric Disaster Fund is accepting donations (payable by check).  
  • Provide any of the following items – As the affected western Kentucky residents move to new, single family temporary dwellings (from communal shelters and state park lodgings), OEC is accepting donations of:
    • Thoughtfully knitted or crocheted afghans/dishcloths and sewn quilts (see specifications, below)
      • Knit/Crochet Afghans: At least 42” square (Note: do not use wool yarn, it shrinks); crafter’s choice of color/pattern
      • Sewn blankets/quilts:  At least 42” square, 100% cotton or cotton flannel, no batting if possible.
    • Dishcloths: cotton yarn, crafter’s choice of pattern/size
    • Other items:
      • New items for setting up housekeeping in a small, single family temporary dwellings: extension cords, towels, sheets, kitchen items, etc.
      • Kroger gift cards in $25 denominations

Collection Site Hours of Operation: Thursday, January 20, Noon-3:00 pm. NOTE: Due to staffing shortages/COVID concerns, contact Janet Murphy (jmurphy@ohioec.org/513-703-7950) to schedule a drop off time.
