With employees across the state working from home and schools closed through the end of April, the lack of high-speed internet access in rural areas has put many Ohio families at a significant disadvantage.
Doug Miller, OEC vice president of statewide services, authored a letter to The Columbus Dispatch on the subject.
“Lack of broadband access hampers education, economic development, health care delivery, and social connectivity. In a time when social distancing has become the order of the day, rural populations have been technologically relegated to such for years,” said Miller.
Miller also appeared on Spectrum News 1 Ohio to address the struggles facing rural Ohioans during this time.
Additionally, OEC Director of Communications and Member Services Patrick Higgins appeared in a story on WSYX in Columbus on the challenges facing rural students in households who lack broadband access.
