Community Foundation gifts $4,500 in grants to non-profits across Ohio

The Community Foundation of Ohio's Electric Cooperatives

Columbus, OH—The Community Foundation of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives awards $4,500 in grants to charitable organizations nominated by employees of electric cooperative across the state. The employees must be involved with the non-profit organization in some way to have their grant request approved by the foundation’s board.

Congratulations to the following organization’s which were selected to receive grants from The Community Foundation of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives:

The Sycamore Center, Ohio Valley Youth Network - $1,000 

The organization was nominated by a Cardinal Plant employee who volunteered for the organization which hosts after school and evening programs for over 500 students, grades K-12 in Steubenville, Ohio, and the surrounding area. More than 80 volunteers keep the center operating. The center’s mission is to make sure no child leaves hungry. On Fridays, the center distributes 350 meals to students at one school alone.

Cancer Association of Darke County - $1,000                                                                                                         

A Darke Rural Electric Cooperative employee nominated The Cancer Association of Darke County to receive a grant. The organization specializes in providing education, transportation, medication, supplies and support to those afflicted with cancer and their friends and families.

Friends of Van Buren State Park - $1,000                                                                                                               

A Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative employee nominated Friends of Van Buren State Park to receive a grant to help the group’s volunteers restore and upgrade hike and bike trails at the park to improve the experience of park guests.

Zak M. Davis Memorial Foundation - $500                                                                                                                

The Zak M. Davis Memorial Foundation honors a young man killed in a car accident in 2019. The mission of the foundation is to introduce, educate and support young adults in the Westerville City School District in the sport of catch and release fishing. Zak was an avid fisherman who competed in tournaments around the country. The foundation was established to carry on his legacy and share his love of fishing.  

Gifts for Angels - $500 

Gifts for Angels supports families of premature, needy infants and those who’ve lost an infant. The organization aims to meet the physical and emotional needs of the families by providing clothing, handmade and memorial items. South Central Power Company also supports the organization through its Operation Roundup program.

United Way of Putnam County-Dolly Parton Imagination Library - $500

The Community Foundation matched a $500 donation made by Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative to the United Way of Putnam County’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library program which supports children’s literacy. Kids from birth to age 5 receive one free book each month at no cost to families.

The board of The Community Foundation of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives meets three times a year to review and approve employee-submitted grant requests.
