Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted has been chosen by Governor DeWine to succeed Vice President JD Vance in the U.S. Senate. His appointment will allow him to serve until Dec. 15th, 2026, during which time, a special election for the last two years of Vance’s six-year term will take place in November of 2026. Lt. Gov. Husted has a long history in state government and previously served as Ohio Secretary of State, Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, and as a member of the Ohio Senate. While serving in the DeWine administration, Husted focused heavily on workforce initiatives, economic development in the state, and improvements to government efficiency.
Lt. Gov. Husted had this to say about his appointment to the U.S. Senate, "I know Ohio well, and I will fight for Ohio as a U.S. senator. I look forward to working with President Trump, Vice President Vance, and the Republican majority who have an America First agenda to fight inflation, stop illegal immigration, and advance conservative values."
