Congrats to Levi Brandt of North Western EC! Levi participated in the online portion of SAFELINES and won the contest for the inaugural edition, receiving an OEC hat and ECOS (Electric Culture of Safety) hat. We have decided to put the online trivia and survey on hold for now due to the limited number of entries in the last edition, as well as the fact that it scored last in the ranking. If you’d like to see this come back, please let us know so we can have that discussion!
We asked, “For what type of non-linework related items do you use lineman’s knots?” You said: bailing twine tied to a trellis for the string beans to climb, half hitches and bowlines for boating, pulling trees out of the woods, and felling a large oak tree with blocks and bowlines.
We asked on a scale of 1-5 to score the first SAFELINES newsletter. You gave it a perfect score of 5! Thank you so much, that means a lot to us!
We asked you to rank the sections of the newsletter. Readers’ ranking results:
- Department Article
- Department News, Updates, Highlights, and Projects
- Cooperative Highlight
- SAFETY Throwback
- SAFELINES Trivia
We are glad to see these results and to know you value the personal communication from our own department members. We look forward to putting a different thought out each quarter and hope you’ll enjoy Kyle’s article in this quarter’s edition.
The trivia portion asked you to define four basic safety terms with multiple choice answers to choose from:
- SAFETY: Reducing and controlling hazards to an acceptable level of risk
- RISK: Chance of injury, damage, or loss
- HAZARD: Condition, circumstance, or behavior that has the potential to cause injury, illness, or damage
- INCIDENT: Undesired event that disrupts the normal operation and outcome of a job or task.
