Scholarship Purpose & Requirements
Purpose: To support the education and career development of children of employees or trustees of Ohio’s electric cooperatives.
Applicant Qualifications:
- Applicants must be children, legal wards or residents in the household of Ohio rural electric distribution cooperative trustee or employee, employee of Buckeye Power, Inc., Ohio’s Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. or the Cardinal Power Plant
- Applicants must be graduating high school seniors entering college/university or an accredited technical school or be high school graduates who are one year post their graduation.
- Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or current career average of “B” or better
- Full ride scholarship recipients are not eligible (tuition, room, board and books)
- Previous winners of Ohio’s Electric Cooperative statewide scholarships (excluding local co-ops) are not eligible
Application Requirements:
- Complete online scholarship application (below)
- One 500-word (maximum) recommendation letter from a teacher on school stationery
- High School Transcript
- Must attend an in-person interview on April 8, 2026
- Interview will take place at Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives located at 6677 Busch Blvd. Columbus, OH 43229
- Proof of enrollment; official course schedule or program transcript

Additional Guidance:
- All materials are due by Friday, March 13, 2026
- All materials must be submitted via the online form- https://ohioec.org/scholarships
- Scholarships must be claimed within six months of winning. Extensions may be granted for just cause if requested in writing before June 1, 2026.
- If winners cannot fulfill their enrollment obligation, the awards are forfeited
- No outside materials are allowed during the interview (ex. electronic presentations, props, handouts, etc.)
- Judging is based on scholastic record, personal achievement, school and community activities, personal interview and cooperative knowledge
- Cooperative knowledge questions are based on the Online Orientation course https://www.ohioec.org/freelandolsa, which takes about 30 minutes to complete.
- Completion of this course is recommended

- Accepted applications will receive a confirmation email from oecyouth@ohioec.org
- Scholarship recipients will receive notification of selection after judging and by April 13, 2026
