OEC safety and loss director featured in copper theft story

Dwight Miller, director of safety and loss control at Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, was featured in a recent NRECA story on copper theft.

Copper theft cases nationwide dropped 22 percent from 2014 to 2016, but it remains a persistent, pernicious financial and safety issue for electric utilities, including co-ops.

Though Ohio’s numbers have dropped along with the national trend, the Buckeye State remains top in the nation for copper theft, with 3,060 cases from 2014 to 2016.

“Thieves in Ohio continue to jeopardize the safety of Ohio’s cooperative employees, the public, and especially themselves for a few bucks in scrap metal cost,” said Miller in the article.
