Berry selected as CEO of Midwest Electric

The Midwest Electric board of trustees has named Matt Berry as CEO.

Berry began his tenure with the 11,000-member co-op in 2000,  as the cooperative’s manager of customer and community relations. He has served as interim manager/CEO since February. Berry’s other responsibilities include service as executive secretary of the Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund, and chair of the Midwest Electric Revolving Loan Fund.

“Matt’s service and commitment to the members of Midwest Electric, coupled with his business acumen and the depth and breadth of his credentials within the cooperative arena, made him a strong choice to lead our co-op to an enhanced level of member service,” said Larry Vandemark, president of the Midwest Electric board of trustees.

Prior to joining Midwest Electric, Berry served as director/vice president of communications for Michigan-based Great Lakes Energy Cooperative. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., and an MBA from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Mich. Berry also holds an AAS degree in journalism; is a graduate of NRECA’s Robert I. Kabat Management Internship Program; is a certified key accounts executive; and completed OEC’s “Leadership Edge” course.

Berry’s leadership reach extends to community-based initiatives as well. He is president-elect of the Greater Grand Lake Region board of trustees, and has served in various executive and leadership capacities on the board of the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
