Statement on PUCO’s approval of AEP power purchase agreement

Today, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) unanimously adopted an agreement to allow AEP to implement a power purchase agreement rider that will assure the delivery of reliable and affordable power to Ohio consumers for the next eight years. This decision will allow for the continued operating partnership between Buckeye Power and AEP at the Cardinal Generating Station in Brilliant, Ohio. Together, AEP and Buckeye Power have invested in best-in-class environmental controls, reducing emissions by more than 90 percent.

“Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives applauds today’s PUCO ruling, which ensures a reliable supply of cost-based electricity for AEP’s consumers,” says President and CEO Pat O’Loughlin. “We’re invested in supplying reliable power and providing jobs through a diverse energy portfolio, which includes coal-generated electricity as a viable, primary resource.”

Buckeye Power generates electricity from coal, natural gas, hydropower, landfill gas, wind, solar, and agricultural bio-digesters for its 400,000 member-owners.
